The boring legal stuff
Privacy Policy

The short version
Stay Boringis an educational website. You can use everything on it — including the calculator and the paper trading simulator — without creating an account, without giving an email address, and without being tracked. We collect as little data as possible, because that's the boring way.
What we collect
Nothing you type. Everything you enter into the calculators is processed in your own browser. Your numbers are never sent to us, stored, or seen by anyone.
No tracking cookies. This site does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. That's also why you don't see a cookie banner — the only thing stored on your device is functional (see the next point), which requires no consent.
Your practice portfolio stays with you. By default, The Boring Practice saves your virtual portfolio in your own browser's local storage, on your device. It is never sent to us or anyone else — we cannot see it. This storage is strictly necessary to provide the feature you asked for (saving your practice trades), so it is exempt from cookie-consent requirements. You can erase it at any time with the "Reset portfolio" button or by clearing your browser's site data. If you choose to create an optional account, see "Your account" below.
Anonymous visit counting. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits. It is cookieless: it stores nothing on your device, does not identify you, and cannot follow you across websites. We only see aggregated numbers such as "how many people visited the calculator this week." This processing is based on legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Standard server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel Inc.) automatically processes technical data such as IP addresses in server logs, as virtually every website host does, for security and delivery of the site. This processing is based on legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and the data is not used to identify or profile you.
Your account (optional)
You can use most of this site without an account. If you choose to create one — to save your practice portfolio across devices, or to use The Boring Portfolio tracker — we store your email address (used only to send you login links, never marketing) and the portfolio data you enter: your virtual practice portfolio and, if you use the tracker, the holdings you type in (tickers, share counts, and amounts paid). This processing is necessary to provide the account feature you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Accounts and portfolios are stored for us by Supabase, Inc. acting as our data processor, on servers located in Stockholm, Sweden (EU). Login works via one-time email links — we never store a password.
Deleting your account: use the "Delete account" button on the practice page while signed in. It permanently removes your email address and your cloud-saved portfolio, immediately and self-serve — no email to us required (though you're welcome to contact us instead).
The newsletter (optional)
If you choose to subscribe to The Boring Letter, we store your email address for the sole purpose of sending you the newsletter, based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You confirm your subscription via a confirmation email (double opt-in) — nothing is sent to you until you click that link. Every issue contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. Your email is never sold or shared.
The subscriber list is managed for us by Kit (ConvertKit LLC, USA) acting as our data processor. Because Kit is a US company, your email address is transferred to the United States; this transfer is safeguarded by Kit's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognizes as providing adequate protection.

Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, and export any personal data we hold about you, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Sweden: Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY). Since we hold almost nothing, most requests will be very short conversations — but you're always welcome to make them.
